The 58th Mongolian Mathematics Olympiad was opened on the 6th of this month under the name of the first champion of the National Mathematics Olympiad, Doctor of Science, Professor Ts. Bayasgalang.
The 58th Mongolian Mathematical Olympiad, named after Dr. Tsembeltsogt Bayasgalan, a former professor of NUS, is being held from May 6 to 10 at the capital's 11th school. Chairman Ms. N. Monkhnasan and Vice President of the Mongolian Mathematics Olympiad Committee Mr. B. Batbaasan wished success to the participants and instructed the judges to work fairly.
In this Olympiad, 231 urban and rural participants will compete for 31 medals in three categories: middle, senior and teacher. Also, six students will be selected to represent Mongolia in the International Mathematics Olympiad from the participants of the senior class of the Olympiad.
The President of the Mongolian Mathematical Olympiad Committee Mrs. N. Monkhnasang said in brief at the opening, "The biggest potential of Mongolia's economy is the educated and intelligent youth. Mathematics is said to be the king of all sciences. Indeed, there is no science that does not use mathematics. Mathematics teaches us to approach things logically, find reasons and solve complex problems. Furthermore, all decisions of the government, public institutions, and private companies are based on mathematical calculations. The goal of the Mongolian Mathematics Olympiad Association NGO is to develop and popularize mathematics education, to introduce the beauty of mathematics to children and youth, to identify children and youth with special mathematical talents, and to support them.
In addition to the competition, this Olympiad provides an opportunity for mathematicians who have not seen each other for three years due to the coronavirus quarantine to meet again, and for our students to get to know each other and make new friends. Therefore, please make full use of this opportunity and wish our talented teachers and students to successfully participate in the Olympiad. May mathematics education spread even more in Mongolia!" said.
Also, many mathematicians and teachers from all generations, such as Ch. Anar, executive director of Ondo Ltd., mathematician Dr. R. Gonchigdorj, and honored teacher Ts. Dashdorj, attended the opening of this Olympiad.
The 62nd International Mathematical Olympiad of 2021 was held online in St.Petersburg, Russia in July 2021, and the Mongolian team won 2 gold, 2 silver, and 2 bronze medals and ranked 11th out of 130 countries.
This year, the 63rd International Mathematical Olympiad will be held in Oslo, Norway, and I hope the participants will be successful.
